absences & tardies
behavior
Our goal is to protect classroom instructional time, ensure a safe environment for all students and provide consequences for inappropriate behavior. We aim to teach students how to behave in a way that will bring success in their future as students and citizens. Each teacher at Rancho utilizes a positive behavior incentive program to encourage behaviors we want instilled in our students. If a consequence needs to occur in order to reinforce teaching, we will choose one that is REASONABLE, RELATED and RESPECTFUL. Your child's teacher will communicate on-going or escalated behavior concerns to discuss strategies for success. Please monitor your child's behavior calendar on a regular basis. It will be used to determine conduct grades on the report card.
birthdays
Only store bought items are allowed. You may choose to send in a goody bag for each student. Please communicate with your teacher if you will be sending items. They will be enjoyed or passed out at the end of the day. Birthday invitations should be provided to the entire class if you are sending them out at school. Otherwise, please mail them to avoid hurt feelings of other children.
class parties
We are allotted 3 class parties during the year: Winter, Valentine's and Last Day. Teachers and / or room parents will email a Sign-up Genius form for party support. More detailed information will come during the year.
communication
Communication between parents and teachers is essential. The easiest way to do this is with our purple folder. Inside, you will find your child's behavior log, a calendar of events, a plastic sheet for money / doctor notes, a reading log, supplemental materials to support learning at home, and a plastic folder for take-home readers. It is imperative that students bring these to school each and every day to teach responsibility.
dismissal
Students are dismissed at 2:55. Teachers escort them to their dismissal location. Please keep your child's dismissal tag on his/her backpack for the entire school year. If you need a new one, let your teacher know. There are 4 ways to go home: Car Rider, Walker, Bus Rider, YMCA. You must submit a dismissal change request here before 1:00.
Enrichment Letter
An Enrichment Letter will come home shortly after the school year begins. These requested funds are separate from the required school supplies to help enrich your child's educational experience. An itemized list of materials will be included on the letter. Past funds have been used for party supplies, additional supplies (glue sticks, writing paper) and for our field trip fees. Donations are always accepted and appreciated. Please participate in our PTO.
field trip
We will be planning a field trip for our school year. A portion of our enrichment fee may help cover the cost of this event. Volunteers will be requested closer to the event. Please have your background check completed prior to signing up to volunteer. Please let your teacher know if you can help.
Handbooks for more info
Please visit www.libertyhill.txed.net/domain/112 to read more policies and procedures on the district and campus levels.
homework
The only homework in first grade is reading!! Your child should be reading for at least 0 minutes a night. Every child should have a guided reading book in their purple folder, located in their daily folder. Books are changed out weekly or as the teacher sees fit. If your child is reading at the end of the year reading level ( J or higher ), their books may not be changed out weekly as these books are chapter books and may take more time to read. Some students who are in an RTI group may have a cloth bag of books in addition to their purple folder. Please teach your child to put their leveled readers back in the correct folder immediately after reading to prevent loosing these precious materials. If you have any questions, please contact your child's homeroom or RTI / guided reading group teacher.
library
Each class visits the library for checkout once a week. Students will bring home 3 books of their choosing. Please check with your teacher for more information. Occasionally, students will visit the library for an enrichment literacy lesson and STEAM / MAKER SPACE opportunities.
lunch
Children need to quickly learn their student ID code if they are purchasing lunch in the cafeteria to expedite the line and give them ample time to eat. It is also helpful to review the lunch menu with your child so they can quickly make a selection. If you want to prevent or limit purchase of snacks/ice cream, please update your Skyward Account. If you want to eat with your student, please meet your child in the cafeteria. We will have a special table for you to sit at!
Medication / injuries
All medications must be cleared through the school nurse. If your child can not participate in PE, please send a note EACH DAY they are to miss. If your child is unable to participate in PE, he/she will also not be allowed to participate in recess. An alternative outdoor activity will be provided.

specials
Our students rotate through a ROYGBPGoldSilver color schedule for specials. Please check with your child's teacher for more information. Our specials classes alternate PE with either music, art, Spanish or keyboarding. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes for PE days. If there is misbehavior during a specials time, a yellow note will come home to be signed and returned the following day.
Visitors
Please bring your id to the front office. You will be required to sign-in and wear a visitors badge while in the building. You are welcome to eat lunch with your child once the school year is under-way. Please say your good-byes in the cafeteria once the classroom teacher picks up the class. It is important that we get back to our daily routine with minimal interruptions.
Volunteers
We love volunteers and have plenty of jobs available. Please talk to the grade level parent volunteer or your child's teacher to see how you can help.
